Joseph DeRosa
THE MAGIC SPOTLIGHT
Joseph DeRosa got his start in magic when he was only 11 years old. He visited the local flea market magic booth, and bought some wonders to perform for his family and friends. He continued with this dabbling until he was in high school, when he met a fellow student who introduced him to the Tarbell course in magic. This was all it took for him to really catch the magic bug.
Joe practiced the materials in the Tarbell course for months before performing for his family. His magic was now higher quality, and was more than just a couple of tricks performed - it was a short routine. The reaction was better than he could have expected. Everyone was fooled, and no one could figure out the how the magic worked.
Joe continued with magic off and on for the next 30 years, learning new magic, but forgetting some of the older effects. Then, while doing the few tricks he could remember, he met a magician whose name he doesn't remember, who invited him to his first Magic Funday (a local magic convention). Finally he had found a way to improve on his magical craft. The very next month he joined IBM Ring 200 and the rest, as they say, is history.
Joe prefers to perform magic for intimate groups. His effects all involve a story, and delight and amaze all who witness him in action. He performs monthly at the Robert Wood Johnson Children’s Hospital. During a visit to California, Joe won an award for the Best Effect at the IBM Ring 216 San Jose competition.
